Satan

The Adversary

A Foreword

It's important to note that before we dive into Satan and who or what he is, we have to cover some basis. This isn't going to follow the same format that a lot of the other pages may, and this is for a primary reason:

We don't know exactly "who" Satan is, and everyone has a different answer.

Before you come in with your own ideas touting it as the "truth", or the question of how we even know what we're even working with, I need to tap the sign and remind you that every Satanist is different. Some don't even believe in him as a literal being, remember? This is okay.

Due to this, the entry for Satan will not only probably be the longest, but also will involve more personal writings from me and various contributors who have their own answers. I will also give a general overview to the different kinds of spirits people have or will call Satan, but this page is on Satan as a topic entirely- both as a title, and a spirit.

Also, it will be a WIP. Constantly. Suffering! I'm kidding, I love this.

The Faces of Satan

Satan goes by many names: the Devil, Iblis, Lucifer, Moloch, Ba'al, Beelzebub, The Serpent, The Father of Lies, Baphomet, The Prince of the Powers of the Air, and most notably, The Adversary. To some, they are all the same being, merely different masks throughout the eons to sew his will upon mankind. To others, they are all different, connected by their title.

Which is the right one to believe? That is a question that has yet to be answered. Perhaps it isn't meant to be answered. Perhaps it is something that is meant for us to answer on our own. Either way, Satan is what binds us all together as Satanists. It is Satan who we are here for, no matter the mask or name.

Satan is the Adversary.

Lucifer

Lucifer is most commonly associated with Satan in the Christian world. They are synonymous - one and the same. To many Biblical and Traditional Satanists, they are also the same.

He is feared as the fallen angel who will one day rise against God in an attempt to take his throne. To many Christians, this is an act of ultimate Pride, and Lucifer will meet his end by Jesus' hand. To Satanists, he is a liberator, setting us free from the ties of moral dogma and control that the Christian God seeks to exert.

His name comes from the King James Version of the Bible, from Isaiah 14:12.

His most notable appearance, however, stems from the Book of Revelation, which is in the New Testament of the Bible (which is Christian, not Jewish).
